Migrant Gallery # 2 So many of our most familiar North American birds are neo-tropical migrantsbirds that breed in Canada and the United States during our summer, then migrate south past the Tropic of Cancer, where they spend our winter in warmer climes. Nearly 200 species of birds fit this description, most of them songbirds such as warblers, tanagers, and vireos. These are also the very birds that most benefit from the preservation of habitat through the growing of traditional shade-grown coffee. In his work Mystery of the Missing Migrants, artist Charley Harper captured the essence of so many of these songbirds with an economy of brush strokes.
