Stretching from Alaska across Canada, the vast Boreal Forest is one of the largest unspoiled forest ecosystems remaining on Earth. Many of our migratory birds breed in the North American Boreal Forest, earning it the moniker "North America's Bird Nursery."
Approximately 327 bird species regularly occur in the Borealthat's nearly 50% of the species found in the U.S. and Canada!
Up to 3 billion warblers, thrushes, sparrows, flycatchers, hawks and other land birds breed in the Boreal and up to 5 billionadults and their new youngmigrate south from the Boreal each fall.
By promoting sustainably-produced shade-grown coffees as an ecologically sound alternative, we seek to preserve winter habitat for our beloved migratory birds.
But every bit as important is the conservation of the Boreal Forestsummer breeding grounds of these birdsimperiled habitat right in our own backyard.
COFFEE FOR THE BIRDS has partnered with Boreal Songbird Initiative (BSI),
a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Americans about the importance of the Boreal Forest of North America to migratory birds.
Together, we seek to raise awareness of the interconnectedness of all habitats and ecosystems in the Americas, and to promote responsible consumerism as a means to the end of conserving them.
To support the work of the Boreal Songbird Initiative, COFFEE FOR THE BIRDS presents a special BOREAL BLEND of certified shade-grown coffees. A portion of the proceeds from every bag sold will go directly toward funding BSI's programs and initiatives.
