After petroleum, coffee is the world's most heavily-traded and consumed commodity. The environmental impact of your morning cup of coffee may not seem that great, but the choice millions upon millions of coffee drinkers make, every single day, can have enormous consequences.

We hope that you choose shade-grown coffee.

Here's why:

The supplanting of traditional family farms by corporate coffee has proven to be an ecological disaster in the making. The clear-cut, sun-grown plantations of big coffee business have decimated habitat, contaminated the environment, and decreased local biodiversity to an alarming degree. The regions that grow coffee may seem far from home, but the rapidly declining numbers of our beloved migratory birds—who depend upon traditional shade-grown coffee habitat for their survival each winter—remind us each year that we are intimately connected to them.

We are longtime lovers of birds—and coffee—who wanted to put our conservation ethic "where our mouth is". By working with select artisan roasters and insisting upon reliably-sourced, sustainably-grown beans, we proudly introduce a line of coffee that is:
